The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community has developed a draft Wetland Management Plan for community lands. We have six objectives for the plan:
- inventory existing wetlands
- assess function and values of existing wetlands
- propose strategies for managing wetland based on function and value ratings
- present historical trends of wetlands
- develop standard operating procedures for monitoring wetlands
- document the state of existing wetlands for future comparison.
The community intends to pursue Treatment as a State in the future, and a final version of this document is a first-step in that process.
